Preparing for Your Pool and Spa Inspection in Queensland

Pool Safety Certificate

Ensuring your pool or spa complies with Queensland’s safety regulations is crucial for a successful inspection. Adhering to the necessary safety measures not only meets legal requirements but also helps prevent accidents. Below is a comprehensive checklist to guide you through the preparation process.

General Preparation Checklist

  • Notify Pool Compliance Gold Coast if no one will be home during the inspection and ensure access to the pool area, including doors and windows that form part of the barrier.
  • Ensure all dogs are restrained during the inspection.
  • Provide clear access to the entire pool boundary.

Key Compliance Requirements

1. Pool Registration

Verify that your pool is registered with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). Registration should have been completed at the time of construction.

2. Pool Fence & Barrier Compliance

To meet the legal standards, ensure the following:

  • Fence Height: The pool fence must be at least 1.2 meters high.
  • Gaps Between Components:
    • Vertical gaps between fence parts should be less than 100mm.
    • The gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground should not exceed 100mm.
  • Structural Integrity:
    • All fence panels and posts must be secure and in good condition.
    • Timber fences should have all palings firmly attached.
  • Non-Climbable Zone:
    • Maintain a 900mm clear zone around the outside of the fence, free of climbable objects like trees, furniture, BBQs, or potted plants.

3. Pool Gate Specifications

  • Self-Closing and Self-Latching: The gate must automatically close and latch from any open position.
  • Latch Positioning: The latch should be at least 1.5 meters above ground level, or located inside the gate, accessible only by reaching over the fence.
  • Swing Direction: The gate must open outward, away from the pool area.

4. Signage Requirements

A compliant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) sign must be displayed prominently near the pool. Ensure the sign is legible and meets current safety guidelines.

5. Additional Safety Measures

  • Direct Building Access: Doors leading directly to the pool must meet specific safety standards.
  • Climbable Objects: Remove any objects within 900mm of the pool fence that could be used to climb over, such as furniture, trees, or shrubs.
  • Boundary Fences: If a boundary fence forms part of the pool barrier, ensure it meets safety standards, including height and non-climbable zones.

Final Steps

By following this checklist, you can proactively address common compliance issues, ensuring a smooth inspection process.
