Additional Clear Area Around a Pool Barrier

Diagram explaining the additional clear area and non-climbable zone around a Queensland swimming pool barrier.

Maintaining the required clear area around a pool barrier is an important part of preventing children from gaining a foothold or climbing over the fence.

Where the pool safety standard requires a non-climbable zone, the surrounding area must also be considered. Objects such as outdoor furniture, pot plants, garden structures, pool equipment and other climbable items can compromise an otherwise compliant barrier if positioned within the required clear area.

This diagram provides a simple visual explanation of how the additional clear area works in conjunction with the pool barrier and non-climbable zone.
