Glass Pool Fence Inspection at Reedy Creek

At Pool Compliance Gold Coast, we recently carried out a pool safety inspection at a residential property in Reedy Creek on the Gold Coast. The property incorporated a combination of frameless glass pool fencing, the dwelling itself forming part of the pool barrier, and a compliant rear boundary fence.

As with many inspections, only a few minor rectifications were required before the property could meet Queensland’s pool safety barrier requirements and proceed towards a Pool Safety Certificate (Form 23).

Issue 1 – Glass Pool Gates Required Adjustment

The property featured two frameless glass pool gates.

During testing, both gates required adjustment to ensure they consistently self-closed and self-latched from all required positions.

One gate had a magnetic latch that was failing to engage because the latch and striker had become slightly misaligned over time.

Rather than replacing the hardware, the latch mechanism was adjusted by installing additional packing behind the fixing points, bringing the magnetic latch back into correct alignment. The gate was then tested repeatedly to confirm that it self-closed and that the magnetic latch engaged correctly from the fully open, halfway and at-rest positions.

This practical repair restored the gate to full compliance without unnecessary replacement costs.

Issue 2 – House Windows Forming Part of the Pool Barrier

One section of the pool barrier was formed by the exterior wall of the residence.

As part of the inspection, all windows opening into the pool area were carefully assessed to ensure they complied with Queensland pool safety requirements.

The windows were fitted with metal flyscreens that were securely fixed to the window frames, preventing unrestricted access into the pool area. The flyscreens were found to be permanent, secure and compliant, allowing this section of the dwelling to continue forming part of the approved pool safety barrier.

Issue 3 – Boundary Fence Compliance

The remaining boundary of the property consisted of a 1.8-metre-high boundary fence adjoining the neighbouring property.

The fence met the required height and construction standards and was suitable for use as part of the overall pool safety barrier, requiring no further rectification.

Issue 4 – No CPR Sign Installed

During the inspection it was identified that the property did not have the mandatory CPR Sign displayed within the pool area.

A new compliant CPR sign was supplied and professionally installed in a clearly visible location in accordance with Queensland legislation.

Outcome

Following adjustment of both glass pool gates, realignment of the magnetic latch, confirmation that the dwelling windows complied with pool safety requirements, and installation of a compliant CPR sign, the property satisfied the applicable Queensland pool safety standards and was ready for certification.

This inspection demonstrates that many properties require only minor adjustments to achieve compliance and that experienced inspection can often avoid unnecessary replacement of fencing or gate hardware.
