Sanctuary Cove Pool Fence Compliance Using Practical Solutions
At Pool Compliance Gold Coast, we recently completed a pool safety inspection at a luxury home in Sanctuary Cove on the northern Gold Coast. The property featured a combination of aluminium pool fencing, frameless glass pool fencing, and a neighbouring concrete boundary wall forming the fourth side of the pool safety barrier.
As licensed Queensland Pool Safety Inspectors, our role is to identify any issues that prevent the pool from meeting the requirements for a Pool Safety Certificate (Form 23) while also providing practical, cost-effective solutions wherever possible.
Issue 1 – Climb Hazard Created by Large Pot Plants
Along the rear boundary adjoining the golf course, the aluminium pool fence complied structurally, however three very large decorative pot plants had been positioned within the required 900mm non-climbable zone.
Although attractive, the size and location of these pots created a significant climb point, allowing a child to potentially gain access over the barrier. The pots were extremely heavy and had clearly been in place for many years, with one tree appearing to have established roots into the surrounding ground, making relocation impractical.
Rather than removing the landscaping, we recommended a practical compliance solution.
A 3mm Perspex panel was securely fixed to the outside of the aluminium pool fence at each pot location. Each panel extended to the full height of the fence and approximately 600mm either side of the climb point. This eliminated the footholds created by the pots while allowing the existing landscaping to remain in place.
The result was a compliant pool barrier without compromising the appearance of the property.
Issue 2 – Gap Greater Than 100mm Beside Pool Equipment Enclosure
The inspection also identified a gap exceeding the allowable 100mm maximum opening between the pool equipment enclosure and the rear aluminium boundary fence.
Because the pool equipment enclosure formed part of the compliant barrier, this opening created a non-compliance issue that required rectification before a Pool Safety Certificate could be issued.
A section of matching black aluminium pool fencing was sourced and securely fixed between the equipment enclosure and the existing boundary fence, reducing the opening to less than 100mm and restoring compliance with Queensland pool safety requirements.
Issue 3 – Glass Pool Gate Adjustment
The property also included frameless glass pool fencing around two sides of the swimming pool.
During testing, the glass gate did not consistently self-close and self-latch from the fully open position, halfway open position and resting position.
Our inspection identified that the gate hinges required adjustment. Once adjusted, the gate successfully self-closed and self-latched from every required position, ensuring the barrier met the requirements of the Queensland pool safety standards.
Outcome
Following these practical rectification works, the pool safety barrier complied with the relevant Queensland legislation and the property was able to proceed towards obtaining its Pool Safety Certificate (Form 23).
This project demonstrates that many failed inspections can be resolved with practical, cost-effective solutions rather than expensive replacement fencing.
At Pool Compliance Gold Coast, we work closely with homeowners, property managers and real estate professionals to achieve compliance quickly while keeping rectification costs to a minimum.
