Mesh or Chain Wire Pool Barrier Requirements

Diagram showing the key requirements for mesh or chain wire fencing used as a Queensland swimming pool barrier.

Mesh or chain wire fencing can form part of a swimming pool barrier, provided it meets the applicable Queensland pool safety requirements.

Unlike solid fencing, mesh fencing must be assessed for more than just its overall height. The size of the mesh openings, the way the fence is tensioned, the location of rails or supports, and any nearby climbable features can all affect whether the barrier provides an effective safety barrier.

Loose or damaged mesh, large openings, or horizontal components that create footholds can compromise an otherwise compliant fence.

This diagram provides a simple visual guide to the main features that should be considered when assessing mesh or chain wire fencing around a swimming pool.
